Running a group stage with playoffs
Updated June 16, 2026
Group + Playoffs is the standard format for larger tournaments. Entries are divided into groups — for example Group A and Group B — where everyone plays round-robin matches within their pool.
You choose how many advance per group (typically top two). When all group matches are complete, semifinal slots fill from standings. If you correct a group result, playoff names re-sync.
This format balances guaranteed matches in the pool phase with the drama of elimination rounds.
